Unique “Learn and Earn” Jobs Program Emerges from Baldwin Wallace-Vitamix Partnership

BEREA, Ohio – A partnership between Baldwin Wallace University in Berea and Olmsted Falls Vitamix has resulted in a unique workforce education program “Learn and win. “

“This particular program is designed to help Vitamix recruit employees,” BWU Provost Dr Stephen Stahl Told cleveland.com, noting that it is ideal for new or recent high school graduates. “We have designed a specific diploma for students who are not traditional by age or circumstance.

“It’s a real partnership,” added Stahl. “This offers the possibility for people who could not support university to go to work, help contribute to the family household and, at the same time, obtain an applied bachelor of commerce degree. It’s a relatively narrow schedule precisely because we have to work for their time at Vitamix.

Program participants work 30 hours per week at Vitamix and spend 10 hours per week, or two hours per day, focusing on their studies.

The first step for anyone interested in the “Learn and Earn” program is to go to vitamix.com and access the careers page at apply for a position. Participation in “Learn and Earn” is coordinated by the company.

Vitamix Senior Director of Human Resources Heather Hennekes explained that the “Learn and Win” concept emerged after a pre-pandemic roundtable led by Team NEO, in partnership with U.S. Representative Anthony Gonzalez (R-Ohio ), revealed a trend of labor shortage in manufacturing.

“The statistics were alarming enough for us to then want, as a key employer in the Cleveland area, to do our part to ensure that we develop that skill set that will allow people to be marketable in the space of. manufacturing, ”Hennekes said. “By 2025, statistics have shown that 65% of Ohio’s workforce will need a two- or four-year degree, or a certified marketable skill.”

Vitamix then sought partnerships “to make sure that we could increase these skills and help create a labor pool,” she explained, the company hiring Baldwin Wallace to provide the educational component.

“We would love to start a course this summer,” Hennekes said, noting that Vitamix was initially considering 15 people to participate and fill a production line. “If we have more, we’ll take care of it. We are ready.”
