PHILADELPHIA, October 1, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Technical influence, a 501 (c) (3) that empowers communities and nonprofits to use technology to better serve our world, today has its new employee training center in the former B&O Station, a historic downtown building of Wilmington, Delaware. The nonprofit purchased the 3,400 square foot property with support from a $ 1.25 million grant from Barclays US Consumer Bank. The new “Tech Impact Opportunity Center Backed by Barclays” is located on the riverfront and will serve as a permanent training facility for Tech Impact’s ITWorks program and an administrative office for training staff.
“We are excited to announce a new permanent home for ITWorks, a program that has helped more than 700 people start their careers here in IT Wilmington and beyond for over a decade, “said Patrick Callihan, CEO of Tech Impact. “The Tech Impact Opportunity Center is an ideal location for the new hub with the train station, bus routes and the riverfront, all within walking distance. This provides our employees and students with convenient parking, restaurants and outdoor experiences. We appreciate the support we receive longtime partner of Barclays to make this happen. “
A historic property
Tech Impact spent several months looking for a new location before settling on the B&O Station building. Originally designed by a respected architect and civil war leader Frank Furness In 1887 the property stood empty for much of the 20th century until ING Direct (Capital One) converted it into a conference center for executives in 2004.
With support from the Barclays Scholarship, Tech Impact invested in an interior freshening up and outfitted the building with new carpets, colors and signage, as well as new student desks and tables made by trainees in the local Challenge program.
