PES congress resolution ‘particularly important’ for Georgia’s EU candidate status

The resolution adopted by the congress of the Party of European Socialists in Berlin is “particularly important” for Georgia, which stresses the importance of EU candidate status for Georgia and is a “direct appeal” to European structures so that ‘they grant the country candidate status, Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Friday.

Kobakhidze underlined the importance of the support of the European political family for Georgia and said that there was a “great” expectation that the German Chancellor, in his speech to the congress, would support the country’s integration into the EU .

Irakli Chikovani, the ruling party MP, also commented on the adopted resolution and said that it stipulated that the three states – Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine – which had expressed their “willingness” and “desire” to become members of the EU, should be supported in their integration process.

Chikovani stressed that Georgia was particularly marked in the resolution and expressed his hope that together with the country’s partners, everything would be done to achieve Georgia’s accession to the EU.

The delegation of the ruling Georgian Dream party, led by Kobakidze, took part in the international congress in Berlin from Friday to Saturday, which brings together high-ranking European politicians marking the anniversary of the PES.
