On opening night live at Gamescom, 2K games debuted Marvel’s Midnight Suns, a tactical RPG starring supernatural heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe. The game is developed by Firaxis Games, the developer of XCOM.
As reported by Polygon, Midnight suns will feature heroes typically associated with the Marvel Comics imprint, including Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider, Blade, and Doctor Strange, as well as other magic users like Nico Minoru and Magik. The game will also include Iron Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, and Wolverine, which will likely make the game more marketable.
Despite sharing a developer with XCOM, Midnight suns will not share any game mechanics with the legendary tactics franchise, according to an interview with the development manager Jake salomon. The biggest change will come in the way players improve and improve their skills, which will involve a âdowntimeâ between missions where players can interact and build relationships with the game’s other heroes:
âRobbie Reyes, the new Ghost Rider, he might want to play video games. Captain Marvel may want to train with you. Tony Stark might want to go play cards, âSolomon said. âYou choose how to spend time with them, choose how you talk with them, give them gifts. There are [also] social clubs around The Abbey that you can join, and that affect your friendships with the heroes. [â¦] Some of them are quite light [since] the story is pretty dark.
You can watch the trailer for Midnight suns below. Title gameplay will premiere on September 1. The game itself will be released in March 2022.
