15 things to watch on TV this weekend on RTE, Virgin Media, Channel 4 and BBC


After the midweek home celebrations for St. Patrick’s Day, many will swap wine for a cup of tea and a cozy weekend getaway on the couch.

So we’ve put together some shows, documentaries and movies on RTE, Virgin Media, Channel 4 and BBC to keep you and yours entertained.


Comic Relief 2021 – BBC One at 19:00

Lenny Henry, Davina McCall, Paddy McGuinness, Alesha Dixon and President David Tennant as stage, screen and film stars entertain the nation with hilarious skits, live performances, big surprises and music numbers mind blowing in an effort to raise much-needed money for good causes across the country and around the world.

Highlights include Michael Sheen, Anna Friel and Keira Knightley in the greatest disaster movie ever, Top Gear hosts interviewed by their fiercest critics yet, and Dawn French returning as Geraldine Granger, joined by Reverend Kate Bottley.

Turning in the years – RTE One at 8:00 p.m.

This week’s show will look back at 1978, the year that saw the launch of RTÉ Two – Ireland’s second-largest television channel.

The Boomtown Rats topped the charts with Rat Trap, Gloria had success with One Day at a Time, while after the deaths of Paul VI and John Paul I, Karol Wojtyla became Pope John Paul II.

Gogglebox UK – Channel 4 at 9:00 p.m.

Armchair critics from the UK share their opinions on what they’ve watched over the week, as cameras capture their instant reactions to the biggest and best shows of the week.

Central Intelligence – Virgin Media One at 9:30 p.m.

This action comedy stars Dwayne Johnson as a former geek who suffered constant humiliation in high school but grew up to be a deadly CIA agent.

But when targeted by his own organization, he comes home for a high school reunion, where he calls on the former campus badass – now a gentle accountant – who very quickly wonders what in the world. he got on board.

Schitt’s Creek – Virgin Media Two at 10 p.m.

There’s a double bill from this hilarious American sitcom this Friday.

Live: Guinness Six Nations – Virgin Media One at 1:30 p.m.

Scotland v Italy kicks off at 2.15pm, and you can catch all of the action in the game’s fifth round, which takes place at BT Murrayfield from 1.30pm on Virgin Media.

Next, Ireland v England will start at 4:45 p.m., with coverage of the closing match of the two teams’ Championship, which was held at the Aviva Stadium.

This time next year – Virgin Media Two at 6:00 p.m.

Davina McCall meets an 11-year-old meningitis survivor who hopes to finally have hands, and a young couple with fertility complications who dream of starting a family.

Also participating are parents whose only wish is for their young son to take his first steps, and a man who, having lost half his weight, finds himself with an unsightly physical reminder of his former self.

The Windsors: Inside the Royal Dynasty – Channel 4 at 8:00 PM

This documentary series explores the history of the royal family in the 20th and 21st centuries.

The first episode focuses on the succession crisis following the death of George V, where Prince Edward was forced to choose between claiming the throne and marrying American divorcee Wallis Simpson.

Choke – RTE One at 22:55

Saturday’s episode of the new Irish black drama sees Val struggling to understand Grace’s recent erratic behavior, while the local Gardaí takes a closer look at the Ahern family as the investigation moves away from dealing with Denis’ death as an accident.

First Meetings Ireland – RTE Two at 11:30 p.m.

Gardener Anthony, 43, from Tipperary, has moved in with Chef Mandy, 40, from Wexford.

Piers Morgan Life Stories – Virgin Media Two at 9:30 p.m.

Harry Redknapp talks to Piers on Sunday about his life and career as one of modern football’s most respected and experienced football managers, as well as his successful appearance in I’m a Celebrity in 2018 when ‘he was crowned king of the jungle.

He talks about the many twists and turns of his roller coaster life, including a traffic accident in 1990 in which his friend Brian Tiler died.
